Non-Surgical Body Contouring Methods

Nonsurgical body contouring methods

Searching for an ideal body shape can be an ongoing journey for both men and women alike, though strict diet and exercise alone cannot always yield desired results. While liposuction or tummy tuck surgery may help smooth stubborn pockets of fat or tighten lax skin to enhance abdominal contouring, there may also be negative outcomes related to these procedures that must be considered when considering them as cosmetic enhancements.

Surgically invasive procedures often involve lengthy recovery times and subpar results, so medical technology has enabled noninvasive alternatives which provide safer and more convenient solutions. New devices not only reduce excess fat but can also tighten skin, rejuvenate vaginal tissues, and remove unwanted hair. Dr. Adarsh Vijay Mudgil of Cosmetic Dermatology fame recently discussed their advantages with The Dermatologist.

FDA-cleared body contouring devices are now readily available, employing thermal or non-thermal energy to reduce fat, firm tissue, and smooth cellulite. These devices can be used on neck, abdomen, thighs, arms and buttocks; some emit radio frequency (RF) energy while others utilize lasers or special lights (EON) that cause subcutaneous tissue beneath the skin’s surface to heat up without harming surrounding cells – ultimately breaking down fat into its component parts for removal from your body.

CoolSculpting(r) is another non-thermal energy device used to eliminate fat. This patented technology works by freezing fat cells in the treatment area until they die and then are naturally eliminated through lymphatic circulation. Patients usually return to daily activities shortly after treatment sessions with redness and/or bruising being the only side effects; pacemakers, defibrillators or aneurysms do not qualify as candidates for CoolSculpting treatment.

Cryolipolysis is another non-invasive body contouring device. In this procedure, cold-induced mechanical action is applied to fat cells in the treatment area to disrupt their membranes and cause them to break apart; then these dead cells are expelled through lymphatic drainage from your body. This treatment should only be undertaken if your BMI falls below 20.
